The Pleno de Torà gives the green light to the change of county: from Segarra to Solsonès

The Plenum of Torà City Council has ratified leaving the Segarra region and becoming part of Solsonès. The approved point, the only one of the extraordinary session held yesterday, received the votes in favor of nine councilors, 4 from ERC, 3 from JxCat and 2 from Pimaries.

The mayor of the municipality, Magí Coscollola, described the plenary session as "historic, exciting and almost unrepeatable". Torà's plenary session was held one day after Biosca also unanimously approved the change of region.

After this procedure, as of the municipal elections on May 28, the two towns will cease to be part of La Segarra and will pass to Solsonès, a claim they have been demanding for thirteen years.

The mayor recalled at the beginning of the session the various votes that have been made over the last few years in different administrative bodies in favor of the change of region.

According to Cocollola, the change will make it possible to "better meet" the needs of the residents, given that Solsonès has tools that Segarra "does not have" and has defended that both Torà and Biosca can choose the region and veguería where they see that they have "more possibilities of pushing forward the municipalities”.

For her part, Mercè Valls, from Junts per Torà, has also defended the change of region, despite the fact that she regretted that it was not possible to hold a popular consultation on the matter to be more "safe" and "reassure a certain sector of the population that feels segarrense” or that believes that it would be necessary to “give the people a word”.

However, from the Primàries group they have also ratified the point. "A town needs to move forward, and if from here we can have benefits, that is what we are looking for," said its spokesperson, Isabel Torres.

The session brought together more than twenty residents of the municipality, as well as the mayor of Biosca, Josep Puig. As it happened in the Plenum on Wednesday March 29 in Biosca, the approval of the point was celebrated with applause from the builders and the attendees.

With the change of region, the two municipalities will cease to be part of the Lleida veguería to become the Central Catalunya veguería, where the town councils trust that they will be able to access more aid. Apart from economic reasons, the towns also rely on historical and social reasons to make the change.
