The Extraordinary General Meeting of the General Community of Irrigators of the Pinyana Canal has agreed this Wednesday to the formalization of the agreement with the State Society of Agricultural Infrastructures (SEIASA) to finance the modernization of irrigation in 1,927 hectares of sector 3, in the municipal terms of Corbins, Benavent de Segrià, Torre-Serona, Vilanova de Segrià, la Portella (Segrià) and Lleida.

The total planned cost of the works is 34.9 million euros, of which 10 will be contributed by the Generalitat and the remaining 25 will be assumed by the irrigators through a 50-year interest-free loan, which will begin to be repaid within 25 years. . The modernization of another 2,500 hectares in Lleida and Alcarràs will also be approved soon.

The session was presided over by the mayor of Lleida and president of the Community of Pinyana Irrigators, Fèlix Larrosa, and by the president of the Irrigation Union, Ramon Piqué.

Once the proposal is approved, by an absolute majority of the irrigation groups present, the signing of the agreement with SEIASA is scheduled for next March 11 in the Paeria de Lleida with the expectation that the public company Tragsa will be able to award the works shortly. The work must be completed in December 2026.

Larrosa has shown his satisfaction with this milestone. "The farmers and ranchers have decided to assume, once again, their commitments and advance in some long-awaited works. It is an example that they give us and a message for other territories that have needs and should know that we assume our share of solidarity," he said. .

In addition, the mayor has highlighted that the modernization project of sector 5 will soon be approved, which covers around 2,500 hectares, most of it in the area of ​​Lleida and around 500 in Alcarràs (Segrià).

This action will be added to that carried out in sector 6, in the parts of Rufea, Butsènit and part of La Caparrella, Malgovern and Torres de Sanui de l'Horta de Lleida, which group 1,300 hectares. It is estimated that the works have made it possible to save 30% of water consumption.
