The perpetual tribute to working women

On International Women's Day I want to share in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos these images of the monument dedicated to working women, by the sculptor Andreu Alfaro, in Terrassa.

This work is a perpetual tribute to this group, beyond the specific 8M celebrations. The Working Women's Monument was inaugurated on December 21, 1996.

The artist Andreu Alfaro sought with this monument to pay tribute to the working women of Tarragona. The structure consists of a long conical corkscrew about 40 meters high and weighing more than 60 tons.

The work is made of Corten steel, formed by two intertwined planes, where, on the one hand, they intersect, narrowing as the height increases and, on the other hand, depending on the angle from which it is viewed, it seems to evoke the sinuous shapes of the woman.

Furthermore, another of the attractions of this striking monument is that it adopts different shades and colors depending on the time of day.
