The old Estrella Damm factory is consolidated as a social and cultural center

When in 2010, after a thorough rehabilitation, the facilities of the old Estrella Damm factory were opened to the public as a center of social and cultural activity, there was nothing to suspect that, 13 years later, the factory in which beer was produced from 1905 to In one year, 1992 would host 230 events linked to culture, gastronomy, sports and innovation in which more than 100,000 people would participate.

The Catalan brewing company, which in 2026 hopes to celebrate its first century and a half of life in style, hopes to continue expanding the presence of the building on Rosselló Street on Barcelona's agenda and to make it known to a wider public its historical archive, one of the most important private collections in Catalonia with nearly 150,000 objects that not only illustrate the history of the company but also the social changes that have occurred since its foundation in 1876.

Last year, the old Estrella Damm factory was once again the scene of the BAM festival, which is part of the program of the Mercè festivities, the musical San Jordi or concerts at the Cruïlla XXS festival, among many other musical activities. In the sporting field, it hosted the Catalan Football Stars Gala, the Mundo Deportivo Women's European Football Gala, the Woman Sport awards and the presentation of Estrella Damm's sponsorship in the 37th edition of the Copa del América.

Among the gastronomic activities that have been held in the facilities of the old brewery are the Time to Eat Fest and the Van Van Market. To all this we must add various solidarity events (the charity concert of the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, the 35th anniversary of the Alzheimer Catalunya Fundació), as well as numerous press conferences to present major events in the city such as the Mobile World Congress.

One of the lines of action that Estrella Damm plans to continue expanding in the coming years with an eye toward celebrating its 150th anniversary is guided tours of the old factory, originally known as La Bohemia. During the last year, nearly 7,000 people have had the opportunity to learn how beer was made more than 100 years ago through a tour of the various rooms, such as the boiler room or the machinery room, and through the historical archive. The visit allows you to add additional gastronomic experiences such as a guided tasting of Damm beers or a five-course pairing menu.

The brewing company is, on the other hand, in the middle of the construction process of its sports city on the slopes of Montjuïc, whose works began in November 2022. The facilities, with two soccer fields and two buildings that will house offices, services doctors, gym, changing rooms and a study room to facilitate the academic training of athletes, will occupy an area of 30,000 square meters.
