The 41-year-old motorcyclist who was seriously injured in Barcelona after hitting an ambulance dies. The deceased, who had been transferred to the Sant Pau hospital, lost his life upon arriving at the center. The Urban Police are investigating the causes of the accident in order to carry out the report.
The accident took place this Wednesday, when an ambulance in service, with lights and sound effects active, was heading to an emergency. The medical vehicle collided head-on with the motorcyclist, leaving him in critical condition. The incident occurred at the intersection of Sant Antoni Maria Claret and Sant Quintí streets, in the Camp de l'Arpa neighborhood, bordering the districts of Horta-Guinardó and Sant Martí.
There are seven victims recorded in the city of Barcelona who have died while driving a motorcycle so far this year. The previous loss driving this vehicle was that of ex-boxer Xavi Moya, at the beginning of October. This figure adds to the count of victims on the road, a total that amounts to 19 deaths from a traffic accident.
Comparing these data with those of last year, traffic accident deaths are already the same with just over two months left to close the year. The surprising thing about last year was that 15 of the 19 victims were driving a motorcycle at the time of their death, despite the fact that the drivers of said vehicle only make up 8% of daily trips in Barcelona, a figure that denotes certain lack of protection for its users.
