The man with 91 charges

Whoever votes for Donald Trump in the November elections knows perfectly well who they are going to entrust the government of the most powerful nation in the world. In 2016 there could be doubts about his ability and especially about his honesty; In 2020 all the uncertainties about his disposition could have already been dispelled, but now, in 2024, the Republican candidate is accused of 91 criminal charges distributed in four different cases. The first trial, where he is accused of bribing a porn film actress, began yesterday in New York. Trump faces a 20-year sentence, but deprivation of liberty would not prevent him from running in the presidential elections and winning them. It would be a unique case in history: a candidate in jail who would have to ask permission to attend rallies. The United States Constitution allows it.

And here lies the key to everything. Millions of American citizens are going to vote for Trump, despite those 91 charges against him. Nearly 63 million voted for him in 2016, and more than 74 million did so four years later. They don't care what he may have done or what he may do in the future. The polls place him ahead of Joe Biden whose economic management has been more than acceptable, but who will turn 82 in November and raises uncertainty about his senility. Democratic families have been unable to find a better alternative, and Biden will be, if his health permits, the only man on Earth who can stop Trump.

If the Republican candidate wins, it is very possible that he will eliminate by decree all the charges that exist against him. May he amnesty himself, so that we understand each other. The problem is that if he loses he has already made it clear that he will raise up all of his supporters against Biden as he already did in the famous protest against the Capitol in January 2021.

In the current political situation, with the latent conflict between Israel and Iran in full ferment, it is not pleasant to think what could happen if the one in charge in the White House were Trump. But it is clear that millions of Americans will not hesitate to continue supporting him with their votes. Although from so many miles away, the idea may seem inconceivable to us.
