The jewels that Diana of Wales wore in her last summer go up for auction

Although almost 26 years have passed since her death, the memory of Diana of Wales is still more alive than ever. Her children, Princes William and Enrique, have been partly responsible for the fact that the figure of the princess is always present, both in her personal life and in her work. Also Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have made several winks with her looks to the applauded and iconic style of Lady Di.

This week, the New York house Guernsey's will auction a batch of jewelry that Diana wore two months before her death. It was June 3, 1997 when the princess, already divorced from Prince Charles, attended the Royal Albert Hall in London for the opening of the theater season. The work chosen was Swan Lake and she wore a sky blue strapless design with a square neckline combined with a choker and earrings known as The Swan Lake Suite.

The jewels were made of diamonds and pearls from the South Sea. It was in early 1997 when Diana met with the British Crown Jeweler to create these spectacular jewels. The choker was finished in time to be released for the ballet's inaugural season, but the earrings weren't ready for that day. The princess had to choose other earrings and she never got a chance to see the final result of the lot, as she tragically passed away before the jeweler showed them to her.

After her death, the Spencer family authorized the sale of these pieces to allocate the benefits to Unicef and the fight against land mines, a cause with which the princess was very involved. Subsequently, it was sold to the Guernsey's house and they were acquired by a magnate who ended up selling them due to the economic crisis. Subsequently, a Ukrainian family, which currently owns it, bought the lot that they now want to put up for auction so that they can allocate the money to the reconstruction of Ukraine.

The Hotel Pierre in the Big Apple will be the scene of an auction that is unknown if it will take place, since in the last hours an alleged "private agreement" to acquire the jewels has been known, although not even the buyer has been specified. nor the price. According to experts, the lot would have an estimated value of 15 million dollars.

This auction coincides with another that Sotheby's will carry out and that features the renowned red sweater with a print of white and black sheep that Diana of Wales wore in 1981. The piece will go up for auction on September 7 with a starting price of 50,000 Dollars.
