The invasion of the trompe l'oeil

The latest installment of the consulting firm Edelman Trust Barometer 2022 warns of the failure of leadership in democratic countries, as is the case of Spain, and the loss of confidence in recovering the economy.

A barometer of the solvent consulting firm Edelman, which this year puts Spain at the head of more than thirty countries in the use of Fake News by the media and places journalists at the lowest level of reputation, along with government sources and very away from academics and scientists. People in Spain do not believe the media or the governments. An alarming conclusion.

But this is one of the serious consequences of using trompe l'oeil to divert attention from realities to political propaganda crutches. And let's remember that a trompe l'oeil is, according to the RAE, the generation of an illusion to show what it is not.

As it happened this weekend in the National Committee of the PSPV-PSOE, where Ximo Puig boasted of having generated a brilliant social and economic reality in the Valencian Community, turning around in seven years a situation more or less valued as catastrophic. Simply what he did was a trompe l'oeil.

Because neither in that forum nor in other Valencian political forums have they raised again why last week in Burjassot and Villarreal we suffered the sexual abuse of several girls by gangs of young people. None of this or the reasons that lead these packs to commit these horrors, encouraged by alcohol and drugs. The trompe l'oeil hides the fact that Valencia is one of the first European cities in drug consumption and nobody does anything to avoid it. It just hides.

Because we are subsidizing Euronews or exhibiting the pantomime of 36 working hours in a Community with 14.3 unemployment, more than 25% of the underground economy and the important hotel industry without waiters.

It is like Puig's own exhibition of the strength of public health, when the serious situations among young people due to mental health problems are hidden in the back room. Up to three months to care for young people who threaten suicide, such is their state of depression.

The reality is hidden with speeches denying the evidence, such as that of Compromís with the Port or that of the PSPV/PSOE with the economic situation that lies ahead. From the Bank of Spain, the European Union and the best Spanish analysts announce that for September the economic situation will be critical in countries like Spain, with a large public and private debt and a higher deficit.

And in the Valencian Community for the worse, because the public debt already exceeds 51,000 million and the deficit reaches 2.1 of GDP, according to the Fiscal Authority for Fiscal Responsibility. And business defaults grow on the run, because the fall in consumption is not a trompe l'oeil.
