The institutional clash muddies the debate in Les Corts and threatens to contaminate the autonomous communities

The earthquake caused by the institutional crisis opened in Spain after the decision of the Constitutional Court to halt the processing of a law that forced its own renewal yesterday had its aftershocks in Valencian politics. The parties positioned themselves in two opposing blocs and were infected with the political tension that exists on the national stage.

A situation that is beginning to be seen with concern in the ranks of the Botànic, since they understand that this high level of confrontation will not be temporary and everything indicates that it will continue at the beginning of the new electoral cycle, greatly contaminating the holding of the Valencian regional elections scheduled for the next spring.

In other words, with the current panorama of institutional fracture, it will be impossible to make the campaign Valencian and that is a handicap for the Botànic, which wins integers when the debate is limited to the autochthonous reality.

In the environment of President Ximo Puig, it is appreciated that this tension only favors the Valencian PP, which is benefiting from a campaign, according to these sources, in a national key. And it is feared that when the time comes, the messages in the regional code will be totally hidden in the face of the fight between Sánchez and Feijóo.

Before beginning one of the most important plenary sessions (if not the most) of the year -the approval of the Budgets-, the president of Les Corts Valencianes made an appearance in which he expressed his solidarity with the legislative power of Las Cortes Generales ( Congress and Senate) and denounced the use of the Constitution "as a mechanism to achieve legislative ends that are not obtained through parliamentary majorities."

Enric Morera censured that these aims were "imposed by people who have not submitted their resignation to expired charges" in a situation that he described as "totally anomalous."

Immediately afterwards, the parties positioned themselves with harsh allegations. The PSPV trustee, Ana Barceló, pointed out that there has been an "unpublished event that does not respect the separation of powers" and regretted the "drift" and "interference" of the PP. For Pilar Lima (Unides Podem), it is "a terrifying blow to democracy", while for Papi Robles (Compromís) what happened is "intolerable".

On the other side, José Antonio Rovira (PP) pointed out that the Constitutional action "make it clear that we are in a rule of law with judicial independence" in the face of what he considers "the assault on the State" that the President of the Government intended to do Pedro Sanchez. The deputy spokesperson for Ciudadanos, Mamen Peris, did not fall short and accused the socialist president of acting "in a dictatorial manner." Finally, José María Llanos (Vox) was happy in plenary session that "thanks to the Constitutional, Spain is Spain and not Venezuela."

A level of tension that clouded the budget debate that was beginning and that yesterday served to ratify the Accompaniment Law.

However, the concern for the seriousness and political repercussions of what happened is not limited to the parliamentary debate. In the Botànic they point out that the state tension can have negative repercussions for their electoral interests. Ximo Puig's idea was none other than to rejoin the Valencian elections with the municipal ones (in May 2023), along with the rest of the non-historic autonomies.

The fact of not mixing with some generals always allows politicians to Valencianize the campaign. However, in an environment of tension like the current one, that is presumed to be very complicated. It cannot be ignored that this Valencianization of the campaign interests the Botànic, which won the regional elections in 2019, but lost the two general elections (April and November of that same year) when the right-wing parties added more than the bloc of the Valencian left.

This being the case, the problem is that the calculation is not easy at all, since for this one would have to renounce the effect of the municipal elections (positive for the left) and the pull of their mayors.
