The head writer of Vila-Matas, a "profoundly true failure"

Enrique Vila-Matas has expanded La Vanguardia's collection of secret books with the work La tentacion del failo by Julio Ramón Ribeyro, one of the outstanding figures of 20th-century Peruvian literature, whom he considers "a profoundly true writer."

The Barcelona author, who has returned to bookstores with Montevideo (Seix Barral), has explained that he is an author who feels "close to me for years, saving all differences". He explains how he met him in Paris, "we exchanged two words, from shy to shy", and describes him as a "failure", that is to say, that "writer who is thinking about the idea that he is failing and continues writing".

For Vila-Matas, The temptation of failure, created from his personal diary, "is his great book. "I have always liked his discreet role as a failure and it is very funny deep down, a person who believes that he has not triumphed and has triumphed", he explains.
