The Grimaldi prepare a 'The crown'

The history of the Grimaldis, who have ruled the Principality of Monaco for eight centuries, will be brought to the screen emulating the successful series The crown, which tells the life of Elizabeth II, hand in hand with the penultimate generation of the royal family. It was Andrea Casiraghi, the eldest son of Caroline of Monaco and her second husband, the late Stéfano Casiraghi, who took an interest in her ancestors and searched the palace archives for stories. This is how this adventure began, to which his brother Pierre, his wife, Beatrice Borromeo and Carlota's husband, Dimitri Rassam, have joined. All of them are dedicated to the audiovisual world and have production companies that are going to take charge of the project. In a statement, they have announced that it is a film franchise about the origins of the Grimaldi.

“We were overwhelmed by the number of epic, intriguing and untold stories hidden in ancient documents, treasured treasures, and private correspondence throughout the centuries. In the end we decided to start at the beginning”, the production company Astrea Films, which Beatrice Borromeo founded in 2018 in Monaco, and which has Pierre and Andrea Casiraghi as team members, said in a statement. The saga will begin with a film centered on the conquest of Monaco by Francisco Grimaldi, the malicious in 1297, continuing, as reported by Variety, with other films and television series.

Two other production companies will participate in the project: Pathè, the most important in France, and Chapter2, by Dimitri Rassam, son of actress Carole Bouquet and 1970s film producer Jean-Pierre Rassam. “I thought I knew this story, but it turns out that I had only scratched the surface. I will only say that it is epic in all aspects: it is a story of family, adventures and intrigue ”, declared the husband of Carlota Casiraghi.

The producers are currently, according to Variety, assembling the team for the first film in the saga, which they plan to start shooting in the middle of next year. Rassam's production company has already produced the new Three Musketeers franchise with Pathè, while the company founded by Beatrice Borromeo has co-produced an Amazon Prime series called Bang bang baby.
