The Government urges the TAD to provisionally suspend Luis Rubiales

The Government suffered a significant setback this afternoon with the TAD resolution that considers the behavior of Luis Rubiales "serious" and not "very serious", but does not want to give up the battle for lost. An hour after the resolution of the Administrative Tribunal for Sport was announced, the Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta, appeared at a press conference in Barcelona to declare that "the Higher Sports Council (CSD) will urge the Administrative Tribunal for Sport (TAD) to provisionally suspend Luis Rubiales".

The minister also reported that, "additionally, the CSD is studying the possibility of appealing through contentious-administrative proceedings the decision that the TAD has communicated to us this Friday."

According to Iceta, although the TAD's rating of the reported incidents has only been "serious, this does not prevent the CSD from temporarily suspending Luis Rubiales from his duties until the process is over." The minister recalled that this resolution does not allow Rubiales to be reinstated in his post, "who has been suspended by FIFA for at least three months, now eighty-odd days."

The minister was very specific: "It's over. The Government, the CSD, the players, FIFA, national and international public opinion have said so. The council of territorial presidents of the RFEF has also said so. As Aitana Bonamtí has said , we cannot allow an abuse of authority. We will not tolerate the lack of respect for women's rights. It must be the Assemblies and supervisory bodies that must take the initiatives and fully exercise the functions conferred on them by Law of sport".

The minister stressed that the Government is not alone in its fight to restore prestige to Spanish football: "We are in contact with FIFA to try to ensure that the bad image that has been given has no harm in our competitions. We are not alone. There is a society. There are some athletes who have won the greatest triumph in their history and it cannot result in harm due to actions that should not have occurred, "he said.

To finish, Miquel Iceta also said "to respect the TAD's decision, how can it be otherwise. I don't know when they are going to meet either. This shows that there are things that the Government can do and others that it cannot. We will try to get our criteria to prevail" .
