The Generalitat insists on presenting its Olympic candidacy to the COE by 2030

The Generalitat is not giving up and, although the president of the COE, Alejandro Blanco, has ruled out a candidacy from the Pyrenees to host the 2030 Winter Olympics, he maintains his intention to present an essentially Catalan technical proposal for that year and if It can't be for 2034.

This was stated by the Minister of the Presidency, Laura Vilagrà, in an interview on RAC1, in which she considered that it would be "a mistake" not to go to 2030 because, in her opinion, the project "has winning options". Vilagrà has assured that if Aragón is not there "we alone can lead" the candidacy, but she has recognized that it does not depend on them since "the agenda is carried by the COE".

In this sense, and assuming that Blanco does not see this possibility, Vilagrà relies on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) which, as he recalled, told them that they would like to have a European candidacy. For this reason, the councilor has confirmed that on Monday they will take a technical proposal to a technical table in which the affected city councils and county councils would be, and in the next few days they will present it to the COE, either for 2030 or 2034.

Regarding the consultation that had to be held in the Pyrenees at the end of July on the Olympic candidacy and that was postponed as it could not materialize, Vilagrà has maintained that this is an investiture commitment and that it will be done when the candidacy is configured. Yesterday Blanco himself was in favor of making the consultation to know the opinion of the territory.

"What we plan - Vilagrà said - is that we are prepared" after indicating that "the game has changed" with the exclusion of Aragón, for which he has again held its president, Javier Lambán, responsible, and has indicated that now the Generalitat bet on a more "medium-term, calmer" strategy.

Regarding Lambán, Vilagrà has recalled that she has never been able to speak directly with him and has emphasized the difficulty of reaching agreements with whoever closes communications.

The councilor has also taken for granted that there would be disciplines that should go to other countries, as was already planned, and that in the case of the ice tests there could be another Catalan city other than Barcelona.
