The Generalitat announces the construction of 637 apartments in Barcelona in five years

The Generalitat has committed to building 637 affordable rental apartments on eleven plots of land donated by Barcelona City Council and to hand over the keys within five years. Despite being a figure lower than the 811 apartments announced by Jaume Collboni at the end of August after meeting with President Pere Aragonès, the mayor has described the agreement as “record and historic due to the volume it represents; "It's a big leap." The construction of these 637 apartments is one of the details of the first meeting of the joint Generalitat-City Council commission that was held this morning.

The two administrations have also committed to accelerate the works - now in different phases of execution - of eleven primary care centers in the city and to prioritize the project and implementation of three others that are currently in the embryonic phase of study ( will be located in the areas of Sardenya, Casc Antic and Casanovas). The agreement also includes the expansions of the Roquetes and Drassanes centers.

“Today's meeting has borne very relevant results, the technicians have worked very intensely over the last two months,” Collboni insisted. The agreement involves the transfer to Incasòl of these 11 plots (initially there had to be 14), in which the Generalitat will build the 637 affordable rental apartments in the districts of Sants (four blocks) and Sant Martí (seven more). “There are 637 apartments of the 1,700 that we pre-agreed upon and that we will do in phases, the technicians have reviewed the plots and as possible, more will be given away,” Collboni added.

The Minister of the Presidency, Laura Vilagrà, who has chaired this first meeting of the joint commission of the Generalitat and City Council together with Jaume Collboni, considers that the transfer of these 11 plots of land “is a concrete, tangible and quick measure to solve problems.” Overall, the agreements reached today represent an investment by the Generalitat of around 200 million. Of them, 80 will be allocated to the construction of the apartments, 20 to the construction of two elevators in Plaça de Sants to improve the accessibility of L1 and L3 and the rest (about 100 million) for the expansion and start-up. of primary care centers.
