The fracture in the concentrations against sexist violence is perpetuated in Valencia

Fátima, 34, was murdered on Wednesday night in Sagunt by her partner. Her 13-year-old daughter remains admitted to a hospital with a reserved prognosis after falling from the family home through an interior patio. Today Valencian politicians have once again expressed their condemnation of the events in several minutes of silence throughout the Valencian territory. And, again, they have done it with different banners and slogans.

As happened in September after the sexist murders in Orihuela and Castellón, two banners were displayed at the door of Les Corts Valencianes. The representatives of PP and Vox - partners in the regional government - supported the official motto approved by the new parliamentary majority -No to violence against women-. At their side, the deputies of PSPV and Compromís showed another phrase: Les Corts against masclista violence (the same one that was used before PP and Vox decided to change it due to the discomfort of the formation that now presides over the autonomous Parliament).

This division has also been visible in the City Council of Valencia. Repeating the photo from September, the members of the Gobierno team of María José Catalá (PP and Vox) have not shown any banners, while those of the PSPV have displayed a residence with the slogan No al terrorism masclista (No to macho terrorism). For their part, the Compromís councilors carried placards with the legend: Enough sexist violence, we want lives (Basta violencia machista, nos queremos vivas).

A division that has not been observed in the concentration at the Alicante City Council, where without a banner all the groups have observed a minute of silence.

There have also been no differences in the minute of silence in Elx led by the Valencian president Carlos Mazón together with the mayor of the town and the provincial corporation. The head of the Consell has shown his “absolute determination” to continue working from the Consell to eradicate the “unaffordable and execrable” scourge of “sexist and repulsive” violence against women.
