The circulation of R1 and RG1 trains between Arenys de Mar and Pineda de Mar has been interrupted after a tree has fallen between Sant Pol de Mar and Canet de Mar, next to the track area. The incident occurred at 1:20 p.m. and left the entire area without power. Firefighters did not begin to evacuate passengers until 2:50 p.m. The electricity supply was restored at 3:05 p.m.
Rodalies has reported that the incident took place at 1:20 p.m. A convoy with nearly 300 passengers traveling towards Arenys de Mar along the affected section has been forced to stop due to lack of tension. To avoid the heat, the doors have been opened, which some passengers have taken advantage of to jump off the train on their own, at the height of the Cavaió beach path, two kilometers from the urban center of Arenys de Mar.
In parallel, the company is working to offer an alternative road transport service. Adif technicians have also traveled to the point to try to resolve the incident.
The evacuated passengers have reacted with much indignation and criticism of the Rodalies service. "When they are not late, they leave us stranded" cried a young man who decided to jump out of the convoy to walk to the station. Meanwhile, the rest of the passengers had to walk about 400 meters to reach the coaches, accompanied by members of the Arenys de Mar Local Police, who helped them from the first moment.
If the passengers of the damaged train were outraged, at the Arenys Renfe station, the passengers of another train that was traveling towards Girona and that was stopped, also reacted against the service. "It is a third world service and they are ashamed to celebrate the 175th anniversary" commented Conchi, a resident of Sant Pol.
On the other hand, groups of students who went to their classes in Barcelona could not arrive on time either. "They don't notify us of anything and when they start reporting, more than an hour has already passed, which prevents us from being able to make an alternative," they described. Javier, a resident of Mataró, did not understand "how, having a train stopped at the station, they don't use it to return in the opposite direction towards Barcelona?" he snapped, while trying to demand a receipt at the ticket office. "They don't think with their heads, only with the protocols," he laughed.
To facilitate the mobility of travelers, an alternative service with coaches has been established between Arenys and Pineda. Thus, the service has been provided by train from l'Hospitalet to Arenys de Mar. From this town to Pineda de Mar, with coaches and from Sant Pol de Mar to Blanes, by train.
