After many years battling in front of and behind the cameras, the Euroleague and FIBA, the two great governing bodies of European basketball, have begun to resolve their differences, drawing a scenario that will benefit all the players involved in the world of basketball. Starting this season there will be a single calendar so that the matches of the clubs and those of the national teams do not overlap, as has been the case for years. In addition, both estates have promised to continue working over the next twelve months for "the good of European basketball."
The replacement in the presidential office of the Euroleague in the Bonanova in Barcelona, with the departure of Jordi Bertomeu and the landing of Dejan Bodiroga, had opened a crack to the peace pipe that months later has ended up becoming a reality.
With this agreement for the so-called windows, the qualifying matches for the next European will be compressed in February 2024, during the week after the Copa del Rey dispute. A few days that the Euroleague had already left clean of matches on its calendar in case the talks crystallized, as they have been. To fit this window, this course there will be one more week with a double day in the maximum continental competition.
The big beneficiaries will be the national coaches, who will finally be able to count on the Euroleague players for the qualifying matches.
