The Episcopal Conference confirms that it has received Cremades' report on abuses

The Episcopal Conference confirmed this Sunday that it has received the report it commissioned from the Cremades law firm

Sources from the Episcopal Conference have confirmed that they already have the report they commissioned and it is being studied for "its integration into the work of the Conference." They announced that it will be published in full “soon,” reports Servimedia.

This past Tuesday, the president of the Spanish Episcopal Conference, the Cardinal Archbishop of Barcelona Juan José Omella, considered at the Europe Forum that Cremades' report "has arrived a little late."

Omella pointed out that “in the end we will count a certain number of abuses,” to explain that the resulting sum will not be the 440,000 victims that have been calculated by extrapolating a GAD3 survey included in the Ombudsman's study on this matter, extrapolation that the person responsible for the survey, Narciso Michavila, recommended not to do.

“We have greatly appreciated the work that the Ombudsman has done in his report. Nothing is perfect. In the world, everything can be improved,” said Omella, who expressed “deep sadness” at the forum about the existence of the abuses.

“What matters is listening to the victims. Hopefully we will do this with the other levels of society, where there have also been victims and they need to be heard. It’s not an excuse, it’s a call,” she continued.

According to the cardinal, the Spanish Church has been working on reparation for "some time" and listening to the victims, with the creation of diocesan offices and a coordination body in the Episcopate so that the reparation "is comprehensive, also economic."

The prelate explained that the bishops have their “own reparation plan” but that they will be attentive to what the State proposes.
