From the T-343 road from Duesaigües to Argentera, in the province of Tarragona and in the Baix Camp region, we can see the impressive Railway Viaduct of the R15 line that runs from Barcelona to Madrid, portrayed in this report in Las Photos de the Readers of La Vanguardia.

Measuring 218 meters long and 36 meters high with 14 arches, it was designed by a young engineer named Eduard Maristany. It was one of the great works of Catalan Civil Engineering, built in 1889 with reddish brick.

In 1938, the central part of the Viaduct was dynamited during the Spanish Civil War as it was an important military objective.

It was an expensive construction that led to the ruin of the Madrid and Zaragoza - Barcelona Direct Railway Company, which was absorbed by TBF Compañía de los Ferrocarriles de Tarragona a Barcelona y Francia in 1886.

Eduard Maristany was an engineer at the Tarragona Railway Company in Barcelona and France and later at Madrid-Zaragoza-Alicante (both companies merged) where he rose to become its director.

Among his works, the Argentera tunnel (more than 4 km long) also stands out, of such magnitude that it earned him the title of Marquis of Argentera awarded by Alfonso XIII. In addition, Maristany ordered the construction of the current France Station in Barcelona.
