The elite sports uniform: Mango's tribute to the Conde de Godó Trophy

Mach point, by Woody Allen, marked a before and after in the aesthetics of tennis and how his clothing is socially perceived outside the courts. A very young and beautiful Scarlett Johansson, clad in a white, double-breasted and collared minidress, embodies in the 2005 film that inaccessible, upper-class figure – or at least a regular member of this social circle – for whom sports fashion passes. to be a daily locker room and the country club, with its traditional courts, his second home.

Technical clothing for playing tennis is a symbol of prosperity and distinction, as is the most social part of the Open Banc Sabadell-Trofeo Conde de Godó. An essential sports event to which Mango wanted to pay tribute through a capsule collection.

The Catalan brand, which is sponsoring the 71st edition of the championship, alludes to their shared roots in an elevated and timeless line of tennis. Bathed in a palette of neutrals and polished lines, the resulting garments inadvertently remind us of that deified Scarlett Johansson playing ping-pong against Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

With a clear allusion to the varsity trend – which has its roots in Ivy League institutions, such as Harvard –, the street-style brand presents for the second consecutive year a line that seeks to celebrate tennis through its flagship garments. The polo shirt, the bomber jacket, the knitted vests and the cardigan are revised in Mango's tailoring workshops to turn them into minimalist and timeless garments, bathed in navy blue and off-white.

The exclusive collection, which has its own stand at the tournament and is now available in all Mango windows, is designed around monochrome sets, with shorts or pleated skirts that combine with sweatshirts, cardigans, shirts and polos. A delicate yet comfortable line, classic but also functional, that seeks to succeed on and off the courts.
