The destruction of the Jershon Dam leaves thousands of people without drinking water

The devastation of the Jershon Dam has had immense consequences on Ukrainian territory. Thousands of people find themselves without access to drinking water after Tuesday's demolishing events.

"The destruction of one of the largest water dams in Ukraine is absolutely deliberate. Thousands of people have been left without normal access to drinking water," Zelensky said via Telegram.

Officials confirm that parts of the regions of Dniepropetrovsk, Zaporijia, Mikolayiv and Jerson in the south and southwest of the country will suffer interrupted water supplies.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister, Oleksandr Kubrakov, stressed that "the main priority now is to provide water to the regions affected by the Russian terrorist attack."

Ukraine's Agency for Infrastructure Restoration and Development said the government decided to provide 1.5 billion hryvnias ($41 million) for the construction of a pipeline with a capacity of about 300,000 square meters of water per day.

The total length of the new water pipeline would be 87 km (54 miles), the agency confirmed.

The Ministry of Health has warned of potential health hazards from chemicals in the water, and they encourage residents to drink only bottled water and use safe water when cooking.
