The delicate situation of Vice President Aitana Mas in the Compromís primaries: All or nothing

In Més Compromís they are clear about it. His bet is to help Aitana Mas to be the head of the coalition list for Alicante. In fact, they are convinced that "everything will be fixed" or as Joan Baldoví likes to say "when it's time, we'll water". However, as the process progresses, this Saturday the census for voters closes, doubts begin to arise in the environment of the first vice president of the Consell.

Yesterday, Mas herself avoided answering the questions about primaries during the press conference after the Consell plenary session, but to the direct question of whether she would feel unauthorized not to be chosen by her people as the headliner for Alicante, the answer she was sincere: "Obviously."

The Initiative leader is in a delicate situation. Although in previous primary processes logic has prevailed, this year the fact that he has such a strong rival as the spokesman for Més Compromís in the Alicante Provincial Council, Gerard Fullana, and above all enemies such as those close to the Mollà family, they pose an added risk to the vice president.

But it was the former Minister of Agriculture and Ecological Transition, Mireia Mollà, who, along with her father, the historical founder of Iniciativa, Pasqual Mollà, has a lot of influence in the province.

Sources close to the vice president admit that these fellow party members are out to destroy her. For this reason, they expect many votes from Elche and Alicante towards Fullana's candidacy, which already has its own supporters. Although in Més they insist that the order is to save and ensure number one for Más, in Iniciativa they do not see it so clearly that this slogan is strictly complied with throughout the territory. "Maybe in Valencia they see it clearly, but Gerard Fullana, too? Why then did he show up to dispute the head of the list with Mas and not accept an electoral ticket?", the same sources ask themselves.

For this reason, and until the result of the vote in the primary process is known next weekend, fear has settled in the environment of the vice president who, with an overflowing institutional agenda, has little time to devote to life internal.

And it is that Mas is playing it since if he does not win in the primaries he would be left out of the regional list. A situation - and for this reason the management of Més Compromís insist on trying to shield its vice president - that would greatly weaken her career and political future. It could even generate, given the feeling of disavowal that Aitana Mas herself recognized yesterday, a very uncomfortable situation in the Valencian Government since there would still be almost four months ahead until the elections.

A scenario that the leadership of the coalition wants to avoid because they understand that Mas and Baldoví complement each other perfectly and that the profile of the vice president, who is beginning to consolidate after some difficult beginnings, is a very useful profile for that Compromís that, after the departure of Mónica Oltra, must bet on shared leadership.
