The Cercle d'Economia will focus its Annual Meeting on the low productivity that Spain suffers and that overshadows other good macroeconomic results such as the evolution of GDP. "It seems that things in the economy are going well but underneath they tell us that there are important problems," warned Miquel Nadal, secretary of Cercle, during the presentation of the conferences that will be held from May 22 to 24 in Barcelona.
The presence of politicians will be the usual one led by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez; the Minister of Economy, Carlos Body; the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, the president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, or the Minister of Economy, Natàlia Mas. During the presentation of the conference, the president of Cercle has been especially critical of the call for early elections in Catalonia caused by the lack of budgets of the Generalitat and which has also forced the Spanish accounts to be extended. The president of the Cercle d'Economia, Jaume Guardiola, has pointed out the need to generate "political consensus" precisely to boost productivity in the economy.
During the conference, Cercle will present the European Construction award to the professors who discovered the covid vaccine and founders of BioNTech, Ugur Sahin and Özlem Türeci. King Felipe will be in charge of presenting the award to the researchers.
Speakers include Federica Mogherini, Xavier Sala-i-Martin, Oscar Garcia Maceiras (Inditex), Carolina Martinoli (Vueling), Simone Bagel-Trah (Henkel), Ermenegildo Zegna (Grup Zegna), Andreas Schleicher (OECD), Pablo Hernández de Cos (governor of the Bank of Spain) and the doctor Valentí Fuster. This year's 39th Cercle conference is titled "The world on trial. Strategies to boost productivity and well-being in times of change."
