The best burger in Spain is eaten in Galicia and tastes like the 80's

Retro fashion has spread to the culinary field and this year the best burger in Spain has a flavor of the 80s. The fourth edition of the Spanish hamburger championship has chosen Old School 1980 as the winner, a creation of the Argentinos Burguer hamburger restaurant in A-Estrada, Galicia. Among more than 300 proposals, this establishment stood out among the 15 finalists and won over a jury of gastronomic critics in a blind tasting held at the Estrella Galicia Museum (MEGA), in A Coruña.

Inspired by "old-fashioned" hamburgers, but with a modern touch, explained the establishment's chef Gonzalo Pose, the Old School 1980 moves away from secret sauces and unconventional ingredients. Its main components are two patties of 100 grams each, made with Galician blonde meat matured for 60 days, American cheese, iceberg lettuce, tomato relish and baconnaise sauce. Argentinos Burguer is a family establishment founded by an Argentine couple when they arrived in Galicia in the early 80's. Today it is his children who preserve the legacy and have led Old School 1980 to take first prize.

Second place went to a Barcelona establishment, Festín, and its creation called La Duchess. Also with Argentine roots, the particularity of this burger is that it is composed of a blend of entrails and beef ribs. Third place went to the Hey Ryan burger from Soul Coffee Beer from Paiporta, Valencian Community.

The jury for the fourth edition of the Spanish hamburger championship was made up of the president of Madrid Fusión, Jose Carlos Capel; the gastronomic popularizer, Alejandra Ansón; and the Michelin Star chefs, Pepe Solla, from Casa Solla; Fernando Agrasar, from As Garzas, and Iria Espinosa, from Árbore da Veira.
