The Atlântida Film Fest awards 'Sueños de pan', the return of quinqui cinema

Palma de Mallorca has revived its annual date with cinema, concerts and conferences. The Atlàntida Film Fest concluded last night with the presence of Queen Letizia and a list of awards that awarded the first work by director Luis Soto Muñoz, Sueños de pan, a film that returns to the days of quinqui cinema and that, reminiscent of the work of Luis Buñel and Carlos Saura, tells the story of two brothers who steal a painting and try to sell it.

The jury also awarded a special mention to Las chicas están bien, by Itsaso Arana, with Bárbara Lennie as the protagonist. The film, which moved and received great applause on its way through the competition, tells the story of some actresses who meet in the countryside one summer to rehearse a play. This work will cause an exercise in self-knowledge among women.

Safe de place, by Croatian director Juraj Lerotic, who has already passed through Locarno where he won several awards, was recognized by the jury of the Atlàntida Film Fest as the best international film. It is also a first film that delves into the abyss of suicide. Inna Sahakyan's Aurora's Sunrise, an animated film that tells the true story of a woman who was a slave, escaped the Armenian genocide and became a silent film star, won the Critics' Award.

The Audience Award went to Passages, the latest work by Ira Sachs, which delves into power relations. And Irène Jacob received the Master of Cinema award last night from Queen Letizia in an act that ended an edition of the Atlàntida Film Fest that has brought together 23,000 in-person spectators and 250,000 in the online version.

Following these data, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà, and the director of the festival, Jaume Ripoll, have assured this morning that "the continuity of the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest is guaranteed", despite the economic difficulties of this year , for which they "hope to announce the dates of the XIV edition shortly", informs Europa Press.

This is how both have explained them in a press conference after the meeting they have held to take stock of the event that ended this Sunday. The general conclusion drawn from the meeting is that "they are extremely satisfied and very happy" with how the festival has gone. According to Ripoll, the Atlàntida Mallorca Film Fest "is one of the most important festivals in Europe" despite the fact that ""this year has not been easy due to economic problems".

Specifically, there was a lack of resources due to "the ambition of the project, which combined concerts, conferences and projections, inviting top-level international people and with this social vocation, therefore free and in open spaces, therefore more difficult to manage ". For his part, the minister said that during the meeting they commented on "a problem that comes from before some compromised games", of which "one has been satisfied and the other will be paid or another option will be given".
