The Valencian left comes out of the general elections of 23-J with different spirits and internal anger. While in Compromís the election of the territorial senator has opened a total war in the coalition with harsh accusations, in the PSPV the idea that Pedro Sánchez can continue in La Moncloa gives him months of organic tranquility after the setback of the regional and municipal elections.
The appointment of the ex-president of the Valencian Courts, Enric Morera, caused a lot of discomfort in Initiative (the coalition's minority partner) yesterday. In the afternoon, the executive of the ecosocialistas met and after a long debate announced that if Més Compromís did not reconsider its position of voting for Morera, they would not "participate in the decision-making bodies" of the coalition. The co-spokesperson of Iniciativa, Alberto Ibáñez, was forceful: "We can't sit at the same table with those who can't stand their gaze."
For this reason, he asked Més Compromís to rethink their decision (already registered in Les Corts) or otherwise, the four deputies of the ecosocialist formation that Mónica Oltra once led will not participate in the vote on Thursday because they will not support a candidate other than the current senator Carles Mulet.
Despite the evident tension and discomfort expressed by his words, Ibáñez made it clear that Iniciativa will continue in Compromís, fulfilling the electoral program with which they presented themselves to the elections. However, it is evident that, after breaking the bridges -as he himself confessed- the coalition is touched at this beginning of the electoral cycle.
It also seemed that the PSPV could have a very bad time in this new stage. However, as this newspaper explained, Sunday's results have lifted Puig and his team off the canvas
As this newspaper explained, the Valencian socialists have risen 137,000 votes compared to the May elections, the same thing that PP and Vox have grown together. In fact, the resistance in squares where the militancy had been badly touched after the loss of institutional power of 28-M has been key to supporting Sánchez. In the socialist ranks they trust that the president of the Government (now in office) will be able to save the investiture and show an alternative form of government to that of PP and Vox.
This removes the drums of war that already sounded in Valencian socialism the days following the bad electoral night and that resulted in pulses against the general secretary, Ximo Puig, something unthinkable in recent years, when it comes to conforming the lists to Congress and to the Senate. All in all, with no congresses in sight (the ordinary one would be at the end of 2025), the Socialists have room to face a quiet renewal and with Puig marking the times.
In fact, the general secretary of the PSPV has wasted no time and has taken advantage of the first opportunity after the respite of 23-J to renew his executive. In the same executive where his name was proposed to also be a territorial senator, Puig shielded his team with the appointment as deputy secretary general of the Government delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé.
The regional leader placed in pole position (for what may happen) the largest institutional reference that remains for the party. And it is that, if Sánchez achieves the Government, Bernabé will play a key role in defense of the central Executive and scourge of the Consell.
Those who know her the most explain that Bernabé is a person of the utmost confidence of Ximo Puig, but who gets along well with the different sensibilities of the party, something that is presumed to be very necessary for these times. To face this journey, the socialist leader has already placed all the pieces of it. Meanwhile, his potential internal rivals have not reached the desired Presidency of the Valencia Provincial Council.
