Squatting tension in the upper part of Barcelona

A strong police deployment today prevents a repeat of the incidents experienced last week in the surroundings of two squatted blocks in the Sant Gervasi-La Bonanova neighborhood, in the upper part of Barcelona.

Once again, the Ciudadanos candidate for mayor of the Catalan capital, Anna Grau, called an act of protest against the squatting in front of these buildings. Squatters from various parts of the city responded by concentrating a few meters away.

Meanwhile, several hundred residents also gathered around the area, some out of curiosity and many others to ask that they evict El Kubo and La Ruïna once and for all.

For its part, Metropoli Abierta reports that next Thursday, May 11, the Desokupa company plans to deploy the largest device in history to evict the squatters from La Bonanova.

It is also planned that next Tuesday, May 9, Ciudadanos will hold a new concentration, so the situation experienced in the last hours could be repeated.

For months now, the squatted buildings of El Kubo and La Ruïna have been a source of controversy. At the end of March, the eviction of the former was scheduled, but a court suspended it.
