Social Security exceeded 10 million women affiliates in mid-April

The data for the first half of April continue to show good employment performance. In these two weeks, two notable elements are recorded. On the one hand, Social Security has exceeded 10 million members for the first time. Specifically, it was on April 15, when 10,006,013 members were reached, which represents 47.4% of the total number of employees. And on the other hand, from April 3 to 15, the daily membership figures were above 21 million, with the highest figure on the 15th, with 21,120,264.

These data point to a continuation of the good news from March when average membership approached 21 million members, surpassing them in daily membership one day, on March 25. Economists are certain that this April or the following months this average membership record will be broken, especially taking into account that it is the good season for employment, when the pre-summer season is in focus. Even the ministry took it for granted in conversation with social agents in the middle of last month.

In relation to the number of members, the Minister of Inclusion and Social Security, Elma Saiz, has highlighted that “it is not only a figure, not only is it a number, not only is it a historical record, but it is a sample of our firm commitment to reduce the gender gap in our labor market”

In March, membership added 190,000 members, which made it the second best March in history, only below that of 2022. It was noted that it included the entire Easter, with the additional boost that these holidays bring to employment, especially in the tourism sector. In this way, it was seen that, although membership increased in all sectors, it was very notable in those related to tourism, with hospitality adding 81,000 new jobs and commerce 13,000. Between the two of them they accounted for half of the increase in March membership.
