SMEs and the self-employed come together as true engines of the Spanish economy

If entrepreneurship is already complicated, getting the product to customers when there is no logistics infrastructure can compromise the success of a small business. Or limit its growth capacity inside and outside our borders.

To publicize its logistics services and value the role of SMEs and the self-employed, Correos has just launched the campaign

Many small businesses are actually the project of a self-employed entrepreneur. A small designer of sports caps, a self-published writer or a young manufacturer of toilet soap is unlikely to have space in his house to store the ready-made merchandise that comes from his suppliers. He may also not have time to pack the products and take them to the Post Office.

With these small entrepreneurs in mind, Correos launched a comprehensive logistics service at the beginning of this year that includes storage and preparation of shipments. It even gives the option of contracting value-added actions, such as the customization and personalization of orders.

These new support operations for small e-commerce are centralized in two logistics platforms in Illescas (Toledo) and Sant Esteve Sesrovires (Barcelona). In addition, both Citypaq and its 2,370 offices can become delivery and return points, necessary to be able to meet all the requirements of a business and facilitate transactions with customers.

Crochet baskets, handmade wallets, oils from small mills, candles... In total, 16,000 references behind which are the dreams of 1,300 small entrepreneurs, often without the variety of products necessary to create a relevant e-commerce, or without the investment capacity to create it.

Correos Market is a marketplace that allows these Spanish companies to give visibility to their products and meet their buyers. This platform does not charge sales commissions and is integrated into Correos' own parcel service. Only logistics and package delivery services are billed. This initiative is part of Correos' commitment to supporting SMEs and the self-employed and contributing to the sustainable growth of the Spanish business community.

The pandemic has taught us the importance of transporting vaccines guarding the cold chain. The pharmaceutical industry is one of those that benefits from isothermal transport, but it is not the only one. Some cosmetics, food products and gourmet preparations also require temperature preservation throughout shipment.

Correos Frío is the logistics solution for these needs. Transport is carried out in isothermal boxes with sensors that use the Internet of Things (IoT) to monitor the temperature inside the package at all times, without the need to open it. Customers can know what temperature their product is at at all times, keep it within the chosen range for up to 5 days and receive alerts of any variation in the cold chain.

Correos Frío already offers urgent deliveries anywhere on the Peninsula, including Portugal and Andorra.

In Spain there are almost three million SMEs, according to March data from the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism. They account for more than 99% of our business fabric and generate more employment at the national level. The boost of electronic commerce in recent years has made it possible for many companies to find customers beyond our borders. For the transaction to close, a reliable parcel agent with international coverage is needed.

This is how Correos Cargo was born, the new parcel air transport service between Latin America-Europe-Asia. Iberojet is also present in this project, which will allocate Airbus A330 aircraft. The first line operated is Madrid – Hong Kong – Madrid, but cargo charter flights can also be closed.

With these new logistics possibilities launched by Correos, the company takes advantage of its strategic location to become a logistics hub between Asia, Europe, Africa and South America. At the same time, it serves as support to promote the internationalization of Spanish companies, putting all the means at its disposal to increase exports.
