Skoda Rodiaq, an office camper ideal for digital nomads

Skoda is a car manufacturer from the Czech Republic that belongs, in turn, to the large German group Volkswagen. Its function is to create practical cars, economically accessible and with an adventurous approach, ready to fit in with the most sporty families, nature lovers and travelers. All this spirit is what the students of the Skoda Vocational Training School have used to create the Skoda Rodiaq, an ideal mobile office for the generation of digital nomads.

The pandemic introduced teleworking in Spain, as an obligation that soon became another weapon for labor negotiation. Many young people value working remotely as a key detail in a job, even more so if it can be done anywhere in the world. A freedom that these students have applied to the development of an innovative, daring and futuristic idea: turning the Skoda Enyaq into a camper.

It is not the first project that they create in this Training School, we have seen concepts such as the Skoda Citjet, the Funstar, a coupé called Atero or the Slavia Spider convertible. However, they had not dared with the world of camping until now and the result is, to say the least, striking.

The first curious aspect of this prototype is the car used to convert it into a camper. The Skoda Enyaq is an electric that, in its 80x Sportline version, has two motors and four-wheel drive. The joint power is greater than 300 CV and, thanks to an 82 kWh battery, it reaches 495 kilometers of autonomy. It also has aerodynamic details worthy of an electric car, to which are added specific 21-inch Supernova wheels and two-tone paint, mythical in California campervans.

The architecture of the Skoda Enyaq is far from any known camper, so they have even had to modify its bodywork. The first differentiating element is the raised and reinforced roof in the rear area, which can remind us of hearses but also of the first Westfalia hardtop campervans, common for the Volkswagen T.1 and T.2.

The final dimensions of this prototype are 4.64 meters long by 1.87 m wide and a wheelbase of 2.77 meters. The height has grown to 2.05 meters (35 cm more than the standard model) to accommodate the camperization of its interior, which also involves the front seats with the aim of creating a mobile office. The entire interior space is multifunctional and even has a permanent Internet connection, a 27-inch monitor and a docking station (mouse, speaker and keyboard) in the living area.

For digital nomads it is normal to connect with views of the sea, in a Natural Park or in an unknown city, but can you imagine being able to do it with your house on your back? The Skoda Rodiaq is not only a mobile office, with details such as a wireless speaker, a coffee maker, or USB cables, it can also be converted into a bedroom. To the "mini" desk in the passenger seat, to which a special arm has been installed to support a computer or tablet, a piece of furniture is added in the rear or cargo area.

This module is, in turn, a kitchen and a desk, so that we can store kitchen utensils or our laptop. Right in front there is a sofa, convertible into a bed for the night, and they have even thought of adding a tent attached to the gate. A perfect solution to compensate the interior space with that camping spirit, which will lead us to use the shower with a built-in solar panel.

In addition, the students have turned to specialists in the camperización of the spaces so that nothing is overlooked. Cargodesign and KPS Automobile have helped them with the manufacture of the furniture, as well as the commitment to recycled and sustainable materials. An 'eco' production that is also transferred to the vehicle itself, which incorporates the door coverings and fabrics in a material worked with special 3D knitting technology patented by Dual Borgstena, a company that collaborates with Skoda for its production vehicles.
