Sau Atlantis discovered by drought

In the Sau reservoir, due to the drought, you can see and visit the old town of Sant Romà, considered one of the jewels of the submerged towns in Spain.

In this case, we must go back to 1962, when this reservoir was inaugurated that covered the town of Sant Romà de Sau, the remains of which, especially the temple's bell tower, are visible when the water level is low, as at the moment. , as seen in La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos.

At the moment there is only 2.29% of the water that fits in this reservoir, a figure that attests to the extreme drought that has been going on for many months in Catalonia and that has manifested itself in a very visual way in this reservoir.

The Sau reservoir, located in the municipality of Vilanova de Sau, is at the foot of the Guilleries massif. It is part of a system of three reservoirs, along with those of Susqueda and Pasteral, which unites the counties of Osona and La Selva.

Now, the remains of the old mill, the cemetery and the town houses are visible. But, also, roots and trunks of the trees that once had life and were part of the landscape before the swamp was created. Now, cracked earth has replaced water.

It could be said that the town of Sant Romà de Sau is like the Atlantis of Osona, like that legendary city described by the Greek philosopher Plato (c. 429-347 BC) that was swallowed by water and was lost to always. Unlike this mythological town, the ruins of Sau have returned to the surface.
