Russia calls up former world heavyweight champion for war in Ukraine

Nikolai Valuev had his last fight in 2009 against David Haye, which was dubbed 'David Vs Goliath'. The boxer, who is currently 49 years old, retired from boxing in 2010 due to "serious problems with his bones and joints." He then devoted himself to politics in the party of Vladimir Putin. He will now participate in the war in Ukraine after being called up.

Valuev, known as "the giant" of Boxing, twice world heavyweight champion, retired from boxing twelve years ago to fully immerse himself in the world of politics: he became a deputy in the Duma for the Russia Party Putin's United. After 16 years in the world of boxing and with a height of 2.13 meters, he could be an important element for the infantry.

“In my opinion, all the deputies have received a recruitment summons, I also received a summons. I received the summons just before my trip to Donbas and I was not at home. Next week I will go and report to the enlistment office," Valuev told 'Izvestia'.

Valuev only conceded two defeats in his entire career. The two at the end. First against the Uzbek Chagaev and then against the British David Haye, at which point he stopped competing. Curiously, Haye would lose his heavyweight crown to Vitaly Klitchko, the mayor of kyiv, also immersed in the war. Valuev and Klitchko were two of the greatest of his generation, but their fight never happened.
