Spain is on track to host the largest fleet in the United States, after the announcement of the arrival —still without a specific date— of two new American destroyers at the Rota base (Cádiz). But for this to materialize, the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, will have to seek parliamentary support since the measure must be endorsed by the Government. "There is no doubt that it will be approved," they predict from the Government.
It has been the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles, who has assured that the Congress of Deputies will approve the reinforcement of Rota's anti-missile shield because it is "something good" not only for the members of the Northern Alliance, but "for the security of the world ".
The Minister of Defense has said, during the first day of the NATO Summit held in Madrid, there is still no calendar with specific dates for the arrival of the two new destroyers. Of course, it affirms that "everything is planned", within a protection scenario "of many threats", so it is "positive" for three reasons: as a deterrence policy, because it focuses on what is known as the "flank south" and for the creation of jobs that it will entail, since Navantia is in charge of its maintenance.
In this context, Podemos has affirmed through social networks that "more weapons or more tanks" are not needed and that what must be guaranteed is that "all people can live with dignity".
Robles has taken advantage of her presence at the Summit, the only minister along with the Foreign Minister who will be present at the meeting, to comment that yesterday's bilateral meeting between Sánchez and the US president, Jon Biden, was "very productive" . As she has revealed, on two occasions the teams rushed the leaders due to the busy schedule, but Biden's will, according to his version, was to prolong the meeting.
