The Purina company and Renfe have expanded the Large Pet Project, which allows dogs up to 40 kilos to travel on AVE trains. These animals will be able to travel on the Madrid-Alicante route, from June 19, and Madrid-València, from June 26, as part of the Friendly Transport Service.
These new services will join those already existing on certain AVE trains on the Madrid-Barcelona lines (with a stop in Zaragoza) and Madrid-Málaga, reports from Purina.
Passengers traveling with pets will receive a guide with tips and recommendations prepared by Purina, a kit with a seat cover and a mat for the dog, and snacks to make the trip more comfortable and enjoyable.
Since the Big Pet Project began on September 13, 800 "big" dogs have been transported on AVE trains, reflecting the importance for passengers of being able to travel with their pets.
From the data extracted from the study, it can be seen that customers who travel with dogs do so mainly on weekends and on vacation.
Trips with dogs up to 40 kilos are exclusively available on a selection of AVE trains.
Regarding the new services, on the route from Madrid Chamartín-Clara Campoamor to Alicante there will be four daily AVE connections (two in each direction).
On the line from Madrid Chamartín-Clara Campoamor to València Joaquín Sorolla there will be a daily service (for each direction); a service from Monday to Friday (for each direction); and a service on Sundays (for each direction).
The travel conditions remain the same, one "big" dog per traveler is allowed, with a maximum of two dogs of these characteristics per train, in a single car and always in a fixed space with two specific seats.
In addition, this extension does not condition the number of pets weighing less than 10 kilos that travel in a carrier on the train.
