Queen Sofía names the best dog in the world

Queen Sofía was a convinced animal supporter before the defense of animals was a problem assumed by society. She has always been surrounded by dogs and cats and has participated in animal protection campaigns such as the one that is waged to safeguard donkeys. Starting today, for the first time, a purebred dog will be able to boast of being the winner of the Reina Sofía trophy. It is an American Akita, whose owner and breeder is José Luis Arrabal, from Malaga, winner of the Mag Dog Show contest, in which they have shared a podium with a Welsh terrier and a Spanish water dog.

The King's mother visited this Saturday, at the Madrid fairgrounds (IFEMA), the 100x100 pet fair where she greeted and chatted with dog owners and attendees at the fair and where the election of the dog that won the Reina Sofia trophy took place to the best specimen of breed. An unconditional lover of animals, in a previous edition of the fair, Queen Sofía adopted "Paquita", a three-year-old dog of mixed breed, who had been abandoned a few weeks before.

Within the largest pet fair held in Spain, the Mad Dog Show, organized by the Royal Canine Society of Spain, has taken place, in which 2,000 breeders have participated, presenting 3,000 dogs of 200 different breeds. They have all competed for the Reina Sofía trophy that has been delivered for the first time.

With this trophy, the Royal Canine Society of Spain, the voice of the dog in our country for more than a hundred years, wanted to thank Queen Sofía for her commitment, support and permanent defense of the dog world, as has been accredited to over decades of work. "Without a doubt, we have the best ambassador to make it known that our dogs are a social asset, a unique heritage that we must protect and preserve", said the president of the RSCE, José Miguel Doval.

Along with the competitions organized these two days, the Mad Dog Show will also offer the opportunity to show the contributions of purebred dogs, through different exhibitions. Thus, the ring of honor will also host the working dogs of the Royal Guard, National and Municipal Police, and the Civil Guard, who will participate in different tests to show all their skills.
