Politics permeates fiction, in the Dramaturgy Tournament

The La Planeta room was once again the setting for the unique Catalan Dramaturgia Tournament organized by Montaña Alta, and which reached the final yesterday. Playwrights Frank Baier, Pau Coya, Aleix Fauró, Isis Martín, Gemma Rodríguez and Amparo Vayà participated in the thirteenth edition of this contest, but only two reached the grand final.

One was Sergio Baos, with the text For everything that unites us, which is a political satire on the interiorities of a right-wing party through the point of view of the treasurer and his candidate; and the other, Lali Álvarez Garriga, with the work A clock in the window, which tells the story of an accidental encounter between a wallet and a left-wing woman with an anarchist couple who become entangled in a political debate.

By chance, both works had a high political component. In the case of Per tot allò que ens uneix, Carles Martínez and Ivan Benet played two men, an alpha male of the right and another who would like to be one, who unravel the miseries of a right-wing party. And in the other piece, Un rellotge a la finestra, read by Diana Gómez and Júlia Truyol, progressivism questions the system, while trust grows between the two women and the relationship explores surprising paths.

The two works flow with rhythm and interest and aroused the sympathy of the public, who reached the end of the tournament quite divided. However, Un rellotge a la finestra, by Lali Álvarez Garriga, was finally the proposal that prevailed, with its political and at times metatheatrical story, and won the prize of a dinner at El Celler de Can Roca. The winner declared that she imagines the piece more like a short film.

If you ever appear at the Dramaturgy Tournament, cross your fingers that Júlia Truyol is one of the actresses who reads your text and you will already have half a victory in your pocket, as happened two years ago with Niñata, by Bàrbara Mestanza. This without detracting from the interpretive work of Diana Gómez, Carles Martínez and Ivan Benet, who defended their texts by creating characters from nothing, based on a quick reading that same afternoon. For the occasion, the presenter, Marta Aran, wore a lavish Hercules costume.

Earlier, yesterday at noon, the grand finale of the fifth edition of the Dramaturgy Tournament for schools organized by the La Ciutat Invisible Foundation was also held in the framework of A Tempo, Arts and Training, of Temporada Alta, and presented by the dramatists Xavi Buxeda and Lara Díez Quintanilla.

Almost 200 students from high schools in Girona and Salt participated. The attendees decided that the winning work would be Micos, which tells of a blind date where the boy has an obsessive disorder with monkeys. The text was presented by the students of the La Salle Institute, and was performed by Mel Salvatierra and Francesc Cuéllar.

This edition of Estación Alta is approaching the end, but there are still some gems to enjoy the festival stages. This Wednesday, for example, comes the time for Albert Serra, who signed this year's promotional short. The unique filmmaker has put on a concert with the Molforts group, regular authors of the soundtracks of his films. The Teatre de Salt will host a performance with songs by the legendary German actress and musician Ingrid Caven and the French writer Jean-Jacques Schuhl. Spaces for all tastes at the fall festival.
