Planoles detects leaks that increase water consumption and hopes to reach the permitted level in May

The Planoles City Council has detected two leaks in the network that increased water consumption. In fact, at the beginning of the year consumption stood at 550 liters per inhabitant per day - the maximum allowed is 230 - although a month and a half ago they were able to fix a first exhaust that allowed this consumption to be reduced to 260 liters.

Now, through a specialized company that they hired to install meters to detect anomalies, they have found a second leak that they have already begun to fix by replacing the tube with a new one. Specifically, these two leaks caused them to lose about 74,000 liters of water. The mayor of Planoles, David Verge, has said that they hope that this month of May consumption will already be within the permitted limit.

At the beginning of the year, Planoles hired an external company to install meters at different points of the water network to look for possible leaks and proceed to fix them. According to a study carried out by the Catalan Water Agency, this municipality of Ripollès consumed a total of 550 liters per inhabitant per day, a figure well above the maximum allowed, established at 230 liters.

Approximately a month and a half ago they detected a leak that was losing about 30,000 liters of water and they have already proceeded to fix it. This allowed them to reduce water consumption to 260 liters. Now, the council has detected a second leak, which is already being fixed.

Specifically, the leak has been detected between the area of Cruells and Les Casetes and the technicians will proceed to install a new pipe almost a kilometer long. "Once the work is finished, we will reset the counters to zero and see what savings we have, but I hope that this month of May we will already be below 230 liters per inhabitant/day," explains the mayor.
