More than 50 companies come together to create AGUA, the Association of Urban Water Managers

The water sector has created the new Association of Urban Water Managers (AGUA), an entity dedicated to the promotion, development and improvement of comprehensive water cycle services in Spain. Promoted by AGBAR, the association integrates companies with the presence of private capital in its shareholding, which employ more than 10,000 professionals

Given the current need to strengthen professional dialogue in the water sector, the AGUA association is established as a key actor in the dialogue with the different administrations and interest groups involved in the integral water cycle.

AGUA, integrated into the CEOE, is convinced that the new water scenario is a great opportunity to generate knowledge, retain talent and quality employment.

The association will be chaired by Hilario Albarracín (Portbou, 1960), former president of KPMG in Spain, graduate in Economics and Business Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid, and member of the Official Register of Accounts Auditors of Spain and of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Spain.

Technology, innovation and knowledge must be the main allies to achieve a guarantee for citizens in terms of water availability. The circular economy, the use of reclaimed water and the digitization of infrastructures and processes must be incorporated as quickly as possible into water management in Spain. AGUA is firmly committed to efficient and professionalized management of urban infrastructures and services, within the framework of smart cities.

In order to meet this objective, it will be necessary to incorporate the best technologies and promote reforms both in the organization and in the regulation of water, allocate more personal and economic resources from the Administration and encourage collaboration between scientific knowledge, Public Administrations and private initiative.
