More budget and more staff to clean up graffiti on the streets

To optimize results and improve the perception of cleanliness, areas have been determined in each district where the graffiti cleaning frequency will generally take place every four months, but with monthly cleaning in those areas where it is necessary. Municipal buildings, markets, parks and gardens and urban structures, such as bridges, walkways or walls, will also be cleaned periodically.

More areas of work

One of the most notable novelties of the contract is that, for the first time, it includes the cleaning of graffiti from furniture and other elements such as fountains, planters, information stands, railings, bicycle parking spaces or plaques with the name of the street. In addition, the cleaning of facades of heritage buildings with a level of protection such as Cultural Asset of Local Interest, Asset of Urban Planning Interest or Asset of Documentary Interest is incorporated.

Coordination with the Urban Guard

In order to increase the level of graffiti removal, we will work in coordination with the Urban Guard, which will have a greater presence of troops in public spaces and will increase complaints, within the framework of the civility ordinance, as a deterrent. In 2023, a total of 486 complaints were filed for graffiti in public spaces or other elements, while in 2022 there were 327. This represents an increase of 48.6%. The amount of the penalties has also increased during 2023 and has gone from 300 to 500 euros, 66.6% more, and can reach 600 euros if the infraction is committed by painting a heritage façade.
