Last Sunday, April 30, Bolaños already had to suspend his attendance at the presentation of the candidacy of former minister Reyes Maroto for mayor of Madrid, which was held in the Plaza de la Villa. On that occasion, his planned intervention at this PSOE rally was replaced by that of the Defense Minister, Margarita Robles.

But just two days later, at the celebration of Dos de Mayo in Madrid, the Minister of the Presidency was the protagonist of a controversial political and protocol clash with the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who vetoed his access to the authorities during the military parade that took place at Puerta del Sol. That day, Bolaños himself already admitted to journalists that he had been "uncomfortable for several days" and that "he had not had a particularly calm weekend."
