Michael Kiwanuka masterfully shakes the shaker of soul and neofolk

A year of waiting after its postponement due to covid has increased the more than justified expectation to taste the magnificent cocktail of soul and neofolk offered by the British singer and guitarist Michael Kiwanuka. The appointment is on the same stage where it was planned to be offered, the large room of the Razzmatazz (9 pm).

The presence of Kiwanuka allows the reunion with a way of feeling and interpreting music with a closeness and exciting warmth capable of breaking down walls and a priori. It will still be remembered by the numerous fans who could see and hear it at the 2019 Cruïlla Festival.

On his return to the Spanish stage, the 35-year-old British musician will finally be able to show the songs from his latest album, Kiwanuka, released at the end of 2019.

A third record release where it was possible to verify again what the promotional notes correctly state: "(...) he has just given life to an album that deals with complex issues such as black identity, violence or self-doubt, but all this wrapped in a luminous atmosphere".

Kiwanuka himself reaffirms these words by saying that “we tend to enjoy what, at first, we tried to hide. Therefore, showing myself to the world as I am, with sincerity, has never seemed so exciting to me.”

Despite being an album with a thematic and conceptual content that involves many questions about the current world and reflects on his own person and on the messages he wants to share, the alchemist of color has been able to imbue it with an addictive luminosity. Today there will be an opportunity to verify it.
