Memphis Depay puts Atlético in the semifinals

Atlético won the last place tonight at the Metropolitano to be in the Copa del Rey semi-final pot tomorrow, Friday, along with Real Sociedad, Mallorca and Athletic Club. The colchoneros defeated Sevilla in a close match, in which Quique Sánchez Flores' team was a tough competitor despite its poor position in the League and a season with many disappointments and almost no joy.

The match was played marred by the death of three people who were traveling to Madrid from Seville to see their team. Before starting, Quique pointed out that “it should never have been played”

Simeone came out with his gala eleven, but Sevilla carried the weight of the game in the first minutes, with Sergio Ramos whistled in each of his interventions. The game took place far from the areas, which meant that there were almost no chances in the first 45 minutes. At 24 the only significant play occurred. Marcao stuck his foot out in a strange way and cut off Nahuel Molina's advance into the area. Gil Manzano gave the penalty without consulting the VAR. Griezman threw it but with such bad luck that the Frenchman slipped when hitting the ball, which went very high, over the crossbar.

There wasn't much else in the first half except for a light yellow for Sergio Ranos for knocking down Saúl. The second half started just as dull. Rakitic replaced Óliver Torres. In the 53rd minute Griezmann almost scored a flag goal halfway between the Chilean and the Vaseline. Llorente and Pablo Barrios came on for Saúl and Nahuel Molina and then in the 59th Griezmann scored, but offside.

In '65 Simeone made one of his surprising changes. He removed Griezmann and Morata, his streaking scorers this season, for Memphis and Correa. It turned out well for him because in the 78th minute Correa put a pass under Ramos' legs and Depay only had to push it into the net.

Ramos was able to equalize with a Rakitic cross combed by Ocampos, but his goal-bound shot went high. Correa and Memhis were able to sentence but they made a mistake in the definition. The match ended with tremendous anger from Sevilla. In addition, Gil Manzano gave a penalty for Pablo Barrios' knockdown of Lamela. The Extremaduran referee went to the monitor and annulled the penalty that seemed very clear because he understood that the knockdown was outside the area. Atlético was in the semifinals.
