Marc Márquez is not up for big parties at his home grand prix, the Catalunya GP. His bad sporting moment, with a Honda that does not give way to miracles, makes him realistic for Sunday's race: "It is easier for me to win the lottery than to end up on the podium in Montmeló," said the driver from Cervera, who is season he has only finished one of the 10 races (he was 12th in Austria).
The statistics smile at him in Montmeló, a route that is not one of his favourites, but "one of those who chokes at some point", as his brother Àlex used to say. "One of my weak points are the long corners and also one of the weak points of the Honda are the long corners with a lot of inclined traction. On this circuit every corner is like that," he explained the reason for his bad feeling with this track. Although the undeniable fact is that every time Marc finished a race at the Circuit de Barcelona, he did it on the podium.
“This year looks very complicated. It's easier for me to win the lottery, I think, so we'll see. You never know, but we are in a completely different dynamic. I like to hear this information, but right now it's not time to think about that," the Repsol Honda rider was ruled out, who has not finished a race in Montmeló since the one he won in 2019. In 2020 he did not race due to injury (the fateful fall of Jerez), in 2021 he fell on the eighth lap when he was seventh, and in 2022 he was undergoing surgery at the Mayo clinic on his right arm the same weekend as the Catalan GP.
Marc Márquez continues without commenting on his immediate future at Honda. Rumors of his departure (he has one more year left on his contract) have ceased, pending the tests of the 2024 motorcycle that he will carry out on September 11 in Misano, after the San Marino GP. To these tests (which all the teams carry out) Márquez trusts his expectations, as if it were an exam for Honda, according to him.
“In the Misano test I can understand what the new bike will be like and we will evaluate the performance of the bike, we will measure the performance of the bike on the track. A brand values the performance of its rider on the track, and a rider values the performance of the bike, I'm excited to see how the new Honda is doing at Misano... If the assessment is negative? Well, it will be time to continue working ”, commented Márquez.
The Cervera rider highlighted that "the important thing is that the Honda riders are united, we complain about the same thing, we all suffer the same thing. I have been riding the same Honda for a long time, but in these three years I have only been able to run half the races", he admitted, due to his injuries.
