Madrid Metro reopens the section of line 12 between Los Espartales and El Casar

Metro de Madrid will reopen this Friday, the 22nd, the MetroSur section between the Los Espartales and El Casar stations, in Getafe, given the progress of the work to connect Line 12 with Line 3 in El Casar (Villaverde Alto-Moncloa ).

Specifically, the section between Los Espartales and Juan de la Cierva closed last day 1 but the progress of the works has made it possible to bring forward the opening of this section and thus facilitate mobility in the area. In this way, the travel time of the free replacement bus service will be reduced by approximately half.

The phase in which the works are in makes it possible for trains to operate again between these two points, circulating on a single track, has indicated the Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure.

The service will remain suspended between Juan de la Cierva and El Casar so that the work that will allow the connection of line 3 with suburban line 12 continues to progress.

This last section will maintain the free bus service, which will have a single stop at both ends of the route, allowing it to be completed in about 20 minutes. They will make their journey from El Casar (lobby of Los Molinos) to Juan de la Cierva along the Juan de Borbón and España avenues.

The works for the extension of Metro Line 3 that will connect the Villaverde Alto station with El Casar, in Getafe, are scheduled to finish at Christmas, to join Metro Line 12 and Renfe Cercanías through the C-3. In this way, MetroSur will add this second connection with the center of Madrid, in addition to the one that already exists in Puerta del Sur (L10 and 12).

The global project has a budget of 110 million euros (VAT included), including Next Generation European funds. The Ministry of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure has reserved in this year's budgets an item of 45.1 million euros for the extension works of L3 to connect with Line 12 in El Casar (Getafe), financed by the Mechanism of Recovery and Resilience.

The extension of Line 3 of the Madrid Metro between El Casar (Getafe) and Villaverde will affect more than one million users in the southern zone, according to calculations by the Community, who will be able to reach Puerta del Sol in just 35 minutes , since it will connect MetroSur with the L3, which connects from Villaverde to Moncloa, the C-3 of Cercanías Renfe, which connects Aranjuez with the Estación del Arte, Sol and the north of Madrid capital.

The new El Casar station will have an area of 4,420 square meters, slightly larger than half a football field, and a pedestrian tunnel to connect with the adjacent Cercanías facilities. There will also be access to a surface parking lot for more than 500 spaces with a charging area for electric vehicles.

This action will also allow the urban and interurban bus network of Getafe to be reorganized to facilitate intermodality in the municipality itself, with connection to interurban buses 447, 448, 488 and N805, and two urban lines, improving access to transportation for residents. of the Los Molinos urban development, which is in full evolution.
