The Board of Directors of the Madrid Regional Transport Consortium (CRTM) has approved this Wednesday to maintain the 60% reduction in the price of monthly public transport passes.
This measure was announced by the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, in her investiture plenary session together with the extension of the 50% reduction in the price of 10-trip tickets.
Both measures, which have already been applied since February 1, will allow nearly seven million Madrid users to continue benefiting from this discount, which represents global savings of 30 million euros per month.
With the agreement signed this Wednesday, the 30-day Youth Pass, which can be used by those under 26 years of age, will continue to cost 8 euros; the normal A 21.8; B1, 25.4 euros; B2, 28.8 euros, and the unified zone B3-C1/C2 remains at 32.8 euros.
In addition, there are discounts for large families in the general (20%) and special (50%) category and people with a degree of disability equal to or greater than 65% (20%) in all tickets.
For their part, the more than 65,000 children between the ages of 4 and 6 who use the children's TTP will continue without paying to use this public service, as will people aged 65 or over. These rates will remain in force throughout the year.
On September 1, 2022, the reduction with which the central Executive intended to alleviate the effects of the economic crisis began. Initially it was a 30% decrease subsidized from the State that was finally extended by 20% more by investing the money that the Community stopped paying for free rail.
Before the end of the year, the central government approved an extension of the 30% discount for public transport in autonomous communities for the first half of 2023, only for those autonomous communities that commit to extending the discount to 50% of the price.
Given this, in the last regional Government Council of the year, the Executive of Isabel Díaz Ayuso agreed to maintain the 50% discount on the public transport subscription, which the central Executive has requested, in January and increase it to 60% from February.
On June 12, when asked if this measure would be extended, Ayuso indicated that she was waiting for the central government to make the decision. "We will make a decision about the price of transport when the Government does, taking into account that this was a matter of two," she summarized then.
