Luis Enrique's farewell letter: "What the team needs is support"

48 games, 27 victories, 66 players and 100 goals later Luis Enrique Martínez closed his stage that began in 2018 as the Spanish coach after losing in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar against Morocco. He said goodbye with a letter published on his social networks in which he was "grateful" to the Royal Spanish Football Federation, its president, Luis Rubiales, and its sports director, José Francisco Molina "for having signed me twice." He also asked for "support" from Luis de la Fuente, his replacement, so that he "achieves everything he wants."

The Asturian's was an elegant goodbye after the RFEF published a letter at 12:30 noon announcing the end of Luis Enrique's stage as coach. The reason he explains is a report made by the sports management in which President Rubiales was recommended that he should "start a new project."

In his letter, the Asturian also had words of thanks for his players. "It all started four years ago and how quickly time has passed. I want to thank the players on behalf of myself and my staff who have been exemplary in their behavior and faithful to the idea proposed. I'm sorry I couldn't help you more" , added the former selector. He also did not forget the rest of the Federation staff. "To the assistants (doctors, physios, kit men, security, audiovisuals, travel staff with Lemons in charge, the team manager Nuria and the nutritionists etc etc) who work tirelessly to help the players and the staff in everything they we need. It's been very special to be a part of this," he added.

"Last but not least", Luis Enrique also dedicated a message to those fans who "has uniformly conveyed their support to us at all times and especially in the most delicate ones". His message ends with "it's time to say goodbye and in these cases just a little reflection... what the team needs is SUPPORT in all its meaning so that Luis de la Fuente achieves everything he wants."
