Los Angeles receives Riqui Puig like an idol

Riqui Puig, signed last Thursday by the Los Angeles Galaxy from Barcelona, landed this Sunday in Los Angeles to begin his new stage in the American MLS and received the applause of dozens of fans who were waiting for him at the airport.

Puig arrived in Los Angeles after 8:00 a.m. local time and Galaxy fans welcomed him with a banner that had "Welcome Riqui" written on it, as can be seen in a video provided by the club.

The Catalan midfielder met his new fans, signed autographs and took photos, already wearing a Galaxy scarf. The Los Angeles team opted for Puig to increase his technical quality in midfield and offered him a contract until 2025. His stage in Los Angeles officially began this Sunday and his presentation will be at the end of next week.

A Barcelona youth squad, Puig came to the entity that Joan Laporta now presides over in 2013 from Jàbac Terrassa as a cadet. Little by little he climbed through the lower categories of Barcelona until debuting with the first team on December 5, 2018 against Cultural Leonesa in a Copa del Rey duel.

As of the 2020/21 academic year, as the Barça club recalled through an official statement, he became part of the first team "for all purposes". In total, he played 57 games in which he scored two goals. In his record, a Copa del Rey (2020/21) and a League (2018/19) stand out.

The Galaxy are experiencing a difficult time in MLS and lost their fourth game in the last five against Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, which dropped them to ninth place in the West, currently outside the playoff positions.
