Logistics companies linked to Andorra seek industrial land in La Seu d'Urgell

The City Council of La Seu d'Urgell is looking for industrial land. Two weeks after the municipal plenary session gave the green light to the initial approval of the modification of the planning in the area of the old Valira campsite and the meadows next to the Andorra highway roundabout, the mayor, Joan Barrera, assures that in his municipality is growing demand for land, especially from logistics companies linked to Andorra. “Andorra's logistics have a lot of circulation and I am sure that there will also be interest from industries,” he assures.

The modification of the planning to respond to the demand for industrial land that will allow the construction of the new Cadí cooperative factory is a first step.

This modification includes the creation of three plots for industrial and service use with an approximate area of 22,000 square meters that will be able to host different business initiatives, expanding existing businesses or the implementation of new companies, with the consequent creation of new jobs.

“The modification is not only thinking about Cadí, but also about the need that the Seu d’Urgell has for industrial warehouses, for industrial land.

"In fact, _he adds_, a much larger polygon would be needed, because in the end this is not one polygon but rather seven small areas," says the mayor. two zones and create an industrial zone that generates economic opportunity for the city.

The owners of these lands are the Cooperativa Cadí, a Valencian investment fund, and a small part belongs to Sareb.

For its part, the Cadí cooperative has thanked all the municipal groups of La Seu d'Urgell for the help received since the search for land began “to be able to build a new factory, until the speed with which this initial modification was approved. of Planning of the South Sector-5, La Capella.

“We are in an initial phase of modifying the General Plan and, therefore, after the public exhibition stage we hope to be able to visualize this project as a future reality for our cooperative,” says its director, Anna Puigcercós.

“The new Cadí Cooperative plant will be integrated into the city environment and will allow us to respond to new technological and energy challenges, in order to be more efficient, competitive and sustainable and continue to be an economic and social benchmark for the city and regions,” says the director.

La Seu d'Urgell is the smallest municipality in the region in terms of area and the one with the largest population, almost 13,000 inhabitants. For the mayor, looking for industrial land is “difficult.” He argues that when the Generalitat reviewed the urban plans prior to 2003, it disqualified an area near the city's current industrial estate. "Having said this _concludes_ the municipal team would like to consider looking for more industrial land and we are going to try."
