Journalist Marcelino Gutiérrez, director of 'El Comercio', dies at 48

The director of the Asturian newspaper El Comercio, Marcelino Gutiérrez, died this Sunday of a heart attack at the age of 48, as announced by the newspaper in its digital edition. This Monday he dedicates his printed cover to her.

"On Saturday, Marcelino Gutiérrez González closed the paper edition of this newspaper, which was placed on newsstands this Sunday, without knowing that in the unpleasant dawn he would be the news," the newspaper recalls in a text in which they define the journalist as an "addict to current events, tireless and incapable of discouragement in the daily life of the Editorial Office."

Gutiérrez was in charge of the newspaper for the last seven and a half years after assuming the position of director in 2017. The journalist, who died early in the morning at his home in Gijón, had a career of almost 25 years working in the Asturian media. He previously graduated in Journalism from the Pontifical University of Salamanca.
