The Valencian writer Josep Piera i Rubió, born in Beniopa, Gandia (la Safor, 1947), has been awarded the 55th Prize of Honor of the Catalan Letters. Poet, narrator, essayist, columnist and translator, his whole life has been dedicated to literature, making his territory the central motif and one of the symbolic values ​​of his work.

The award has been announced at the Altaïr bookstore, on Barcelona's Gran Via. The jury of the award granted by Òmnium Cultural has highlighted "his extraordinary career, creating a mythical setting in the mountains of La Safor, with the Cingle Verd and the valley of La Drova as great lyrical settings, with an unmistakable poetic voice, and with a constant and persistent defense of the Catalan language in the Valencian Country, from literary creation, society and school”.

The jury for the Catalan Letters Honor Award is composed of Marc Artigau, Judit Carrera, Martí Domínguez, Àngels Gregori, Ingrid Guardiola, Maria Rosa Lloret, Isidor Marí, Marta Nadal and Salvador Sunyer.

The traditional award ceremony will be held at the beginning of June in a location chosen together with the awardee, who is a member of the Philological Section of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans.
